Buster Keaton "The Great Stone Face"

This month Booze & Yarn (Wednesday January 27th) will be showing films by the one and only Buster Keaton. Famous in the silent era as a physical comedian, his films are beautiful, and unbelievably complex....

Buster Keaton:
Born in 1895 and named "Buster" by family friend and stage-mate Harry Houdini at 6 months of age, after a tumble down a flight of stairs unhurt, Keaton began his career as a toddler in a stage act "The 3 Keatons" with his parents Joe and Myra.

Their act, one of the most dangerous in vaudeville, was about how to discipline a prankster child. Buster was thrown all over the stage and even into the audience. No matter what the stunt, he was poker-faced. By age 21 his father was so alcoholic the stunts became too dangerous to perform and the act dissolved.

As an adult, Keaton created some of the most beautiful and imaginative films of the silent era.
